Understanding the Power of Mobile: Influencing Guest Behavior On or Near Your Site
By David Turner President and CEO, Parallel 6 | January 19, 2014
Celebrating another new year, 2014 means that we are far beyond adopting mobile devices. In the U.S. alone, there are approximately 137 million smartphone users. A majority of those users keep their mobile devices with them wherever they go, allowing their mobile devices to influence all aspects of their lives.
From apps that manage your finances, your numerous calendars, and even your weight loss goals, we choose to interact with our mobile devices on a daily basis. It's with this desire to interact on our mobile devices that we have fueled mobile commerce growth and its fast level of adoption. Due to this mobile activity, mobile is having an immense impact in the retail space.
Mobile sales hit $5.9 billion in Q1 2013 taking over nearly 11% of total web sales. Furthermore, in the first quarter of 2013 U.S. retail sales grew 1%, web sales grew 13% and mobile sales grew 31%.
So What Does This Mean for Hospitality?
With all aspects of running a property or location, you want to create a collective retail experience that is engaging, interactive and creates a connection between you and your guest. It should be about more than just making a purchase; it's about your guest choosing to purchase with you because they have made the choice to integrate you into their lifestyle. So while you should create a mobile app focused around retail, it should be a lifestyle app that interacts with guests during every aspect of their experience at your hotel.
The best way to create an engaging, interactive retail experience is through an enterprise-specific mobile solution. The robust feature set of an enterprise mobile solution is what keeps you connected to your consumer every step of the way and allows you to accommodate their experience, in effect, having the power to modify their behavior on or near site.
