Jamaica Rolls Out World's Biggest Reggae Festival
JUNE 21, 2007. As the July sun hots up in Jamaica, so does the country's inimitable music scene, and next month's 15th Red Stripe Reggae SumFest - the world's biggest reggae festival - is set to be a scorcher.
The majority of the line up for the event, which runs from 15 -21 July, is already confirmed. Queen of soul Mary J Blige and hip hop legend LL Cool J will join Shaggy and Beenie Man in a frontline of reggae and dance hall artists that will thrill the 55,000 reggae fans who arrive in Montego Bay to hear the top acts, DJs and massive sound systems.
A five-day music festival like no other, Red Stripe Reggae SumFest kicks off on Sunday July 15 with a beer-inclusive Beach Party featuring the Fab 5 band along with popular sound systems.
On Monday July 16, the Mad Monday Mo-bay Street Jam brings some of the greatest dance artists out to create what is arguably the street dance of the year. The event continues on Thursday July 19 with Xplosion, fronted by Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Macka Diamond and many more.
Friday night is Evolution night, with Shaggy leading the line up of stars before the curtains fall on the final night (Saturday July 21) with music draws such as Tanya Stephens, singer songwriter Tarrus Riley, Collie Buds and Bajan (Barbadian) sensation, Alison Hinds.
Montego Bay in North West Jamaica is rapidly becoming known as 'Vibes City' for its varied music scene. Visitors come from all over the world for the heady mix of beautiful white sand beaches, world-class resorts - which frequently attract some of Jamaica's best performers for night time entertainment - Mo-bay's 'hip strip' nightlife and, of course, its reggae music.
The concerts take place at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex. More information on Reggae SumFest is available on www.reggaesumfest.com.
