ATM Opens in Dubai

DUBAI, UAE, May 2, 2007. The 14th edition of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) -billed as the world's third biggest tourism fair after the WTM in London and ITB in Berlin - got underway at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on May 1.

The four-day annual show was opened by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group, in the presence of Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, Director General of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and others.

Those present on the occasion included Mr. Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb, DTCM Director Operations and Marketing, Mr. Eyad Ali Abdul Rahman, DTCM Executive Director Media Relations, Mr. Ibrahim Yaqoot, DTCM Executive Director Human Resources and Training Solutions, Mr. Salah Rashid Al Ansari, DTCM Director Visitors Information Bureaus, Mr. Khalifa Ali Buamaim, DTCM Director Overseas Promotions, and Mr. Ahmed Al Tunaiji, DTCM Director Media and Advertising.

Mr. bin Sulayem met a number of visiting ministers, senior officials, diplomats, senior travel and tourism industry decision-makers and media representatives at the Dubai Stand and briefed them on a number of initiatives that Dubai and DTCM have taken.

With a stand measuring 908 square metres and 68 booths, Dubai is making its largest-ever showing at the ATM. The fair is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the auspices of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

This is the largest-ever stand space taken by the DTCM. There were a total of 108 co-participants from Dubai 's booming tourism industry, including hotels and tour operators.

A 100 square metre space had been allocated to create Dubai Heritage Village to promote the rich heritage and culture of the emirate.

At the stand, the department is displaying several electronic services like Dubai Live Map, Interactive Kioks, e-Government services and its popular and user-friendly website.

The Human Resources Division is also present at the Dubai Stand, highlighting its varied role in the hospitality industry training programmes among others.

Representatives from each of the DTCM's 15 Overseas Representation Offices are also on hand to support the Dubai co-participants on the matters pertaining to their respective markets.

The department also brought 102 hosted buyers from 15 countries for the Dubai co-participants.

The Media Relations Division has brought out a special souvenir book highlighting the ATM's history and DTCM's role. It has also ensured extensive coverage in local print and broadcast media in addition to international media outlets.

Advertising campaign was also carried out in selected media in addition to publication of special booklets to mark the occasion.

In addition to this, the Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department (DNRD) is participating on the Dubai Stand promoting their popular e-Gate service.

More than 2,600 exhibitors from 62 countries are participating in the ATM-2007.

Eight destinations will participate for the first time. This year's show will occupy 24,600 square metres of space, up 11 per cent on last year. At this year's show there are more than 114 new exhibitors from 34 countries, including first-time representations from China and Peru .

On Thursday, May 3 from 17.00 and on Friday, May 4 the show is open to the general public.
