DOC Announces 2008 MDCP Grant Award Competition Details

WASHINGTON, DC, June 20, 2008. On June 17, 2008 the U.S. Department of Commerce published in the "Federal Register" the announcement for this year's Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) grant award competition. This year, the applications will be due on July 31, 2008. An MDCP kick-off meeting is planned for Tuesday June 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. (EDT) in the Herbert C. Hoover Building, 14th and Constitution Avenue N.W., in Washington D.C. to discuss the program and application preparation. Those who are interested in participating via teleconference should call 888-390-8568. Your participation is highly recommended. For more information on this meeting and the confirmation number for teleconferencing please refer to the MDCP website.

Travel and tourism grant applications will be in competition with all other sectors of the U.S. economy. On the MDCP web site pages, past award winners are announced, and there are numerous links that provide detailed information to assist you in the development of your proposal. The tourism industry has had several grants awards.

Travel South USA, the Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Western States Tourism Policy Council, and Mountain South, USA were all awarded grants from the MDCP. The Office of Travel and Tourism Industries (OTTI) would like to encourage travel and tourism organizations to apply for this year's awards as well.
