ASTA Celebrates Legislative Success at 5th Annual Advocacy Dinner

. October 14, 2008

ALEXANDRIA, VA, June 25, 2008. Industry leaders will come together in Orlando this fall during THETRADESHOW (Sept. 7-9)at ASTA's fifth annual Advocacy Dinner to celebrate ASTA's influence in shaping the policies affecting the retail travel business. It is a chance for ASTA to spotlight its role in the legislative process and for attendees to socialize and network with like-minded travel professionals. The night will include a special showcase performance by the cast of the popular London and Broadway stage productions of Chicago-The Musical, as well as speakers and special guests celebrating ASTA's value in shaping the political policies affecting the business of selling travel.

"ASTA legislative success has benefited not only ASTA members, but the travel industry as a whole," said Cheryl Hudak, CTC, ASTA president and CEO. "Each year we work very hard to educate our members about new laws that concern them as both businesspeople and consumers. Our advocacy on behalf of the travel industry and the traveling public has made all the difference in our members' ability to work in a marketplace that is both profitable and rewarding."

The evening will start with a black-tie reception, followed by a dinner with top industry leaders. One of the evening's highlights will be the announcement of the second winner of the 2008 Barbara O'Hara Advocacy Award. The award will be presented each year by ITSA to the ASTA member who has made the most significant contribution in advocating for the interests of the travel agency community before federal, state and/or local governmental authorities.

ASTA also will recognize the contributions of its Political Action Committee (PAC). To learn more about ASTAPAC, visit www.ASTA.org/government.
