Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach to Host British Film Festival LA

. November 10, 2008

NOVEMBER 10, 2008. The Amrista Group and Executive Festival Director Laura Orr have chosen the Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach and Marina Hotel, one of the preeminent Southern California beach hotels, as the site of the 2009 British Film Festival Los Angeles (BFFLA). Along with providing accommodations for filmmakers and festival guests, the popular Redondo Beach hotel will be the near-exclusive venue for film showings, meet-and-greet sessions and various other film festival events.

The British Film Festival Los Angeles is a dynamic event with a holistic approach to entertainment media. While the heart of the festival is the roster of over 200 films from a vast collection of categories and disciplines, this in fact represents only a fraction of the week's most anticipated events. BFFLA will also screen television pilots, pitch pilots, short films and music videos and will host a segment dedicated to veteran and amateur film composers and song writers.

The 2009 British Film Festival Los Angeles will run from May 3-9, 2009. Film submissions will be accepted through April 15. Tickets for select screenings and multi-day passes will go on sale January 12. For more information about the BFFLA, visit the web site at http://www.britishfilmfest.com.

Mrs. Orr is especially excited about the selection of Redondo Beach and the Crowne Plaza hotel: "The BFFLA is pleased to call the South Bay home. Whether you are a filmmaker or audience member we would love to share our unique brand of Hollywood glamour and British charm with you..."

The Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach and Marina Hotel is located only 7 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and will be providing a special rate for festival-goers during the event. Nearly all film presentations will be on-site at the Redondo Beach hotel. In the event of an off-site presentation, transportation will not be provided. For more information about Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach, visit the web site at http://www.cpredondobeachhotel.com.

The list of feature presentations is culled from an expansive list of categories including traditional features, documentaries, feature-length animated films and avant garde features as well as recognition of films produced in Los Angeles, films that present positive gay and lesbian messages and even student films. Headline features include "The Hipsters" starring Joan Rivers and Phyllis Diller and "Jackson" starring Steve Guttenberg and written/directed by J.F. Lawton, as well as documentaries "The Truth About Weapons of Mass Destruction", "Men of Steel" and "An Unlikely Weapon", the latter narrated by Keifer Sutherland.

Because nobody wants to spend the whole time sitting in front of a screen, the BFFLA is organizing daily excursions and events to round out the experience. Attractions include an exclusive L.A.-style fashion show, a talent show by and for festival-goers, trips to Disneyland(R) and San Diego Sea World, the black-tie gala awards dinner and a raucous end-of-show after party.
