Malarkey's Restaurant Staying at Crotched Mountain Resort

FEBRUARY 27, 2009 - Shell Vacations Hospitality - a nationwide resort management firm and managers of Crotched Mountain Resort in Francestown, New Hampshire - reached an agreement to retain Malarkey's Restaurant & Pub in the resort's historical building.

"Malarkey's is situated in Crotched Mountain Resort's main building, originally known as the Gibson Tavern, built 200 years ago," says Shell Vacations Hospitality President Susan C. Kelley. "The building has a fascinating story that began when it became a famous 'turn-in' place for coaches on a once-busy commercial route. As managers of the resort, we think part of being a good citizen is to remain true to the building's original reputation as being 'a place of specially good entertainment of the table and pillow...of jolly times and boisterous good cheer.' Malarkey's manages to maintain this heritage of open-hearted hospitality and adds an element of fine dining."

Malarkeys' Owner Scott Wheeler says, "We are looking forward to working with the people from Shell Vacations. Like us, they're excited by this opportunity. Our head chef, Elizabeth Henderson, has managed the menu since 2005. She's devised a bill of fare that pleases the modern, American palate, with a tip of the tri-corner hat to an era taking pride in an ample and fully-laden sideboard. New Hampshire-based restauranteurs Scott & Donna Wheeler have operated Malarkey's Restaurant & Pub at the resort since February 2005. They also own other restaurants in New Hampshire, including Malarkey's in Milford. Head Chef Elizabeth Henderson is well-known throughout the region for creations such as homemade tortellini stuffed with cheese and roasted vegetables, served over a garlic-and-herb, wine reduction sauce or her signature peppercorn-brandy cream sauce used to top "The Tavern Sirloin," a marinated sirloin grilled over an open flame.
