Sunshine Coast Open for Business
QUEENSLAND, Australia, March 18, 2009 - Visitors planning a getaway to the Sunshine Coast can rest assured that their holiday experience will not be compromised by the recent oil spill off South East Queensland last week.
A comprehensive clean-up has seen 17 of the Sunshine Coast's 19 patrolled beaches opened and return to their customary, pristine condition with a full recovery of all beaches expected by the end of the week.
Tourism Sunshine Coast, CEO, Russell Mason said that while the impact of the oil spill was considered to be minimal to the region, the extensive and responsive clean-up process had protected the Sunshine Coast's natural environment.
With Easter fast approaching visitors are encouraged to continue with their holiday plans for a great Sunshine Coast getaway.
"It's very much business as usual for the Sunshine Coast in readiness for the Easter holiday period. After a great Christmas season tourism businesses are once again gearing up for what is expected to be a very strong Easter trading period." said Mason.
The oil spill had done little to stop normal activity on the Coast with scheduled events still attracting strong visitation across the region.
Events such as the Noosa Festival of Surfing have attracted strong crowds over the weekend, and remain unaffected as it continues this week. Likewise Mooloolaba beach awaits a record field to contest the 17th Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival to be held from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 March.
The popular Sunshine Coast region has been blessed with good fortune in recent times feeling limited effects from Cyclone Hamish swirling off southern Queensland and more recently a speedy clean up from the oil spill associated with the MV Pacific Adventurer.
"The reality is that the Sunshine Coast has been fortunate that our natural assets have not been compromised. Visitors to the Sunshine Coast this Easter can be assured that their holiday experience will be filled with a full range of choices from the beach to the hinterland." Mason said.
