The Luggage Lock for the World Traveller
UNITED KINGDOM, December 22, 2005. Savvy world travellers know that airport security for their checked baggage is more stringent than ever. Travellers to the U.S. are well aware that locking their checked baggage risks have the lock broken or the baggage forced open for security inspections.
But there's good news for air travellers.
The highly successful U.S. based Travel Sentry luggage locking system is now available in the UK. In addition, following the successful adoption of the system by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs has now implemented the same system at London airports.
The system is easy for travellers to use. Travellers who purchase a Travel SentryTM Certified lock, which are available from more than 50 different brand distributors, need only use it as they would a normal padlock or locking strap. The world's leading hard side luggage manufacturers are now building integrated locking mechanisms into their new models as well.
Once locked, bags can be opened by authorised airport security personnel by way of special security tools - which means that it is no longer necessary to cut or break open the bag. Luggage opened by security will be relocked after inspection and continue the onward journey securely.
For security agents, the system is simple to identify as each Travel Sentry certified lock has a red diamond shaped logo which alerts them to the fact that it can be opened.
In a recent survey carried out on UK travellers 71 percent said that they would still lock their bags even if it were possible that their bags may be cut or broken open, 98 percent said that they believed that locking was a deterrent against unauthorised persons gaining access to their bags
Travel Sentry luggage locks are widely available in the UK from outlets including Harrods, Selfridges, Boots and World Duty Free (at airports).
