Contractors Group Predicts Cement and Concrete Shortages in 2006
ARLINGTON, VA, December 28, 2005. The price of cement and concrete is expected to jump 10-15% in 2006 with the number of spot shortages growing, further discouraging new hotel building, according to the Associated General Contractors of America trade group based here.
The price of both products rose 10-12% from September 2004 to September 2005. Spot shortages were reported in 32 states. U.S. cement production, meanwhile, increased 2%, but consumption went up 7%, making the U.S. increasingly dependent on imports.
