Cendant Appoints COO
JANUARY 10, 2006. Mike Nelson is being appointed Chief Operating Officer of Cendant Travel Distribution Services' International Markets global consumer business.
He will be responsibile for the online travel brands, ebookers, HotelClub, Rates to Go, Travelbag and OctopusTravel across EMEA and the Asia-Pacific regions. Nelson has spent the last five years with Cendant leading the on-line travel business, Orbitz. He was a key member of the original Orbitz management team and played an instrumental role in launching the business and guiding it to profitability by its third full year of operations. Cendant purchased Ortbitz in 2004.
During his time at Orbitz, Nelson managed various functions including finance, revenue management, partner marketing, destination services, project management and supplier relations (Air, Hotel, Car, Cruise).
Nelson's focus will be on building a best in class technology platform, developing new product capabilities and improving brand awareness. His diverse experience at Orbitz has given him unique insight and knowledge that will be invaluable in achieving these goals.
Prior to Cendant, Nelson had 10 years experience in finance and marketing at Diageo/Pillsbury, Deluxe Corporation and Arthur Anderson.
He reports to President and CEO Mitch Truwit based in the US, who is head of Cendant TDS' global consumer travel business.
