Quebec City Wins Bronze in Top City Awards
LONDON, UK, February 6, 2007. Destination Qu'ebec - UK is delighted to announce that Qu'ebec City has been awarded the Bronze Award in the 'Top City' category at the Wanderlust Travel Awards, as voted by readers of Wanderlust magazine at the Times Destinations Show at Earls Court on Friday February 2nd
The top three award winning cities all received over 95% in satisfaction ratings, according to the Wanderlust reader's. Qu'ebec City came a close third behind the Silver and Gold Award winners - Cusco, Peru and Luang Probang, Laos.
Wanderlust's Editor-in-Chief Lyn Hughes commented that although all three winning cities were perhaps not as well-known as other more traditional holiday destinations, they reflected Wanderlust readers' ability to seek out new, exciting, up and coming places to visit.
Qu'ebec City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the oldest city in North America, has seen a growing number of UK visitors venturing up the St Lawrence River to explore this historic city over the past year. With a truly unique atmosphere and culture, Qu'ebec City is unlike any other North American city - with high walls, ramparts, narrow cobbled streets, funicular and breakneck stairs it is little wonder that's its popularity with UK visitors is rapidly increasing.
The beautifully restored architecture and 17th Century buildings of the city offer a vision of what the city must have been like it the earliest period of the founding of the colony, and displays a warmth and charm even during its snowy winters. The exquisite cuisine highlighting regional produce distinguishes Qu'ebec City's restaurants as some of the finest in North America. It remains also one of the most romantic cities on the continent.
The city will celebrate its 400th anniversary in 2008. Six months of festivities are being planned and information will soon be available on the events that will take place during this heritage year. www.quebec400.qc.ca
