StayOnline Provides Bandwidth Shaping Tool
New GuestPass DirectorSM is Next-Generation Firewall for HSIS
ATLANTA, GA, February 15, 2005. StayOnline, the nation's market leader in premier High Speed Internet Solutions (HSIS) for the hospitality sector, has added a revolutionary new product to the toolkit it provides its hotel, resort, meetings facilities and vacation property customers. GuestPass DirectorSM is the company's proprietary new bandwidth shaping tool which offers each individual property immediate information and control over the use and distribution of their internal bandwidth.
GuestPass DirectorSM is a next-generation intelligent firewall that allows network administrators to see - in most cases for the first time - what is happening on Internet and WAN resources, both by application and by user.
"This first-if-its-kind firewall allows our customer hotels 100% real-time visibility into packet traffic over their entire network," said Mike Henderson, Vice President of Marketing for StayOnline. "This enables them to allocate bandwidth for both guest and back-office functions, as well as to limit bandwidth usage when needed."
Limiting bandwidth is necessary in order to control P2P or Peer-to-Peer file sharing, and Bit torrent traffic, which can be the largest bandwidth "hog" on a network. According to Henderson, GuestPass Director helps control P2P file sharing traffic by limiting the amount of bandwidth available. Pull down menus are organized by category to allow granular control. In addition, it helps network administrators prioritize mission-critical, conference room traffic, enabling them to prioritize bandwidth within the hotel.
GuestPass Director offers additional robust security features, including spyware control, anti-virus protection, content filters and a SPI firewall. In terms of performance, it provides application shaping, quality of service, real-time and historical reporting of usage and automated alerts and report delivery.
"Perhaps best of all, GuestPass Director is a far more economical option than the annual price of adding another T-1 line," said Antonio DiMilia, President and CEO of StayOnline. "Its rich offerings make this a no-brainer, since GuestPass Director pays for itself quickly in bandwidth savings alone, not to mention increased guest satisfaction."
