Germany Launches Fan Camp at ITB

. October 14, 2008

DORTMUND, Germany, March 6, 2006. This will be unique in all of Germany: During the 2006 World Cup, trade halls in Dortmund will become gigantic fan camps right across from the World Cup stadium.

Four thousand beds in five massive trade-fair halls, known as Westfalenhallen, will be available for World Cup visitors. The offer is enticing to fans not only because of the exclusive proximity to the stadium, but also because of the low price. While hotel prices are rising everywhere else in response to the World Cup, fans can stay at the Dortmund fan camp for only 35 euros per night.

This price even includes tickets for the local transportation network with which visitors can reach the stadiums in Cologne and Gelsenkirchen or explore the area. The tickets are worth more than 20 euros. The only condition is that guests must stay for at least three nights. The option of traveling all over North Rhine-Westphalia will make the fan camp in Dortmund the central meeting place for foreign guests in the Rhine-Ruhr area and one of Germany's most attractive sites for World Cup visitors.

Fans from the following countries and more are expected to descend upon North Rhine-Westphalia: Sweden, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Portugal, England, France, Serbia and Montenegro, Italy, and Spain. During the World Cup, a series of events will be offered at Westfalenhallen, some of which are free. They include showing the matches, pop concerts, and participatory events. All the African countries represented at the World Cup will be at the "Africa Center."

This project is directed toward those who have tickets to World Cup games but still do not have any accommodations. Guests who did not get any tickets, but would like to experience the World Cup atmosphere anyway, are also welcome. Lodging at the halls will include a men's area, a women's area, and one for couples.

The city of Dortmund's tourism division, DORTMUNDtourismus, is introducing the project at ITB Berlin (Stand 102, Hall 8.2) this year. For further information and booking, please go to www.fancamp - dortmund.de.
