Top Chefs Heat Up Las Vegas Hotel & Restaurant Show
Chefs Compete at Las Vegas Culinary Challenge
LAS VEGAS, NV, March 16, 2006. Top area chefs and Southern Nevada culinary students will tantalize the taste buds of conventioneers and judges at the seventh annual Las Vegas Culinary Challenge. Competitors will whip up culinary masterpieces for two days during the Las Vegas Hotel Restaurant Show (LVIHRS).
More than 50 chefs will go head to head, vying for points toward American Culinary Federation medals and cash prizes. For the competition, each chef will prepare one plate of food for display and one plate for each judge to sample. This year, the categories include rock Cornish game hen, chicken, duck or fish and hot or warm desserts. There will also be a Pastry Masterpiece competition including cake decorating.
"The Culinary Challenge is a great opportunity for up-and-coming chefs to show what they are made of," said Bob Ansara, LVIHRS chairman. "It's also a great chance for conventioneers to see some amazing culinary masterpieces."
The panel of judges include five of the United States 70 Certified Master Chefs (CMC), including: Chef John Hui, CEPC Caesars Palace; Chef Gustav Mauler, CMC Spiedini, Cigar Bar and Sazio; Chef Victor Gielisse, CMC, Hyde Park, NY; Chef Raimund Hofmeister, CMC, of The Culinary Institute of Las Vegas, Chef Kevin Gawronski, CMC, Schoolcraft College, Livonia Mi, Chef Gunther Heiland, CMPC, AAC.
The Culinary Challenge will take place both days of the LVIHRS, Wednesday April 12 and Thursday April 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The competition is sponsored by: Southwest Gas, Meadow Gold Dairy, US Foodservice and Real California Cheese.
The LVIHRS will be held at Mandalay Bay Convention Center and features the latest in food and beverage, design, equipment, amenities, cleaning, lines, tabletop and technology.
