John Murtha Appointed GM of Ocean Edge on Cape Cod

BREWSTER. MA, April, 2006. Ocean Edge Resort & Club on Cape Cod has announced the appointment of John Murtha as its new General Manager. A seasoned hospitality veteran with more than three decades experience in hotel management and marketing, as well as native roots in New England, Murtha will oversee all resort and club operations at the destination retreat.

The premier seaside resort on Cape Cod, Ocean Edge boasts an array of luxury accommodations, restaurants, recreational facilities and services, including an 18-hole PGA Championship golf course, USPTA-certified tennis facilities, a fully equipped fitness center, four dining venues, inventive Ocean EdgeVentures kids programs, an historic mansion, and a 700-foot slice of private beach on Cape Cod Bay. Laid out over more than 400 acres with ready proximity to the Cape's many highlights, Ocean Edge has long been a favorite of families and sporting types alike.

Prior to joining Ocean Edge, Murtha spent a decade as General Manager of three Sonesta Hotel properties, including Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston from 2000-2005; Sonesta Beach Resort Bermuda from 1998-2000; and Sonesta Beach Resort & Casino Curacao from 1995-1998. Before that, he spent 1988-1995 in hospitality marketing as Vice President, Group Director with Irma S. Mann, Strategic Marketing, with clients including ITT Sheraton, Best Western, Historic Hotels of America, and others. Murtha got his start in the hotel industry in Washington, D.C. in 1975.

Active in an array of hospitality industry organizations, Murtha was honored as the Massachusetts Lodging Association's Outstanding General Manager of the Year for large hotels in 2004 and currently is the president of the New England Inns and Resorts Association.

Murtha received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Hotel Administration from the University of New Hampshire, graduating Cum Laude in 1975.
