Two Hotels Planned for Waukegan's Fountain Square
WAUKEGAN, IL, April 14, 2006. Proposals for two new hotels in and around Fountain Square of Waukegan are starting to take shape, including one that would be constructed on the current site of the 32-year-old Lakehurst Cinema, according to local reports.
The Waukegan Development Commission gave a unanimous recommendation to a plan to redevelop the cinema property with eight lots, the largest of which sits near the cinema. Developer Shai Lothan confirmed that negotiations are ongoing to bring a Holiday Inn Express to the site, though he cautioned against assuming anything at this point.
Along those same lines, negotiations are underway to bring a SpringHill Suites hotel to the Fountain Square property. Ohio-based real estate broker Michael Licciardi said Wednesday that a contract has been struck to bring a franchise to the Waukegan Road development.
