Kama Sutra and the Little Gift
Turns every hotel room into a Honeymoon Suite
MAY 10, 2006. From in-room strawberries and champagne to soaking tubs for two, hoteliers recognize the importance of romance to their guests. Some are even taking it to the next level with fun, sexy Romance Packages featuring Kama Sutra oils, potions and powders, and other goodies designed to inspire Cupid.
Kama Sutra, based in Thousand Oaks, California, has gained a following because of products that have more to do with romance than raunchiness. The company's sweet Oils of Love heat up on contact, making ordinary touch much, much more. Honey Dust body powders come with their own "tickling feather" for application, and the flavors - Strawberry & Champagne, Tangerines & Cream, Raspberry Kiss and Honeysuckle are meant to be good enough to eat.
Kama Sutra's packaging contributes to the products' desirability among all consumers, even those who rarely experiment with lubricants and body oils. Boxes and containers feature brilliantly colored designs that are discreet enough to be left on a nightstand. According to Beverly Pollington-Sirjani, Kama Sutra's Senior Vice President, hotel guests are delighted when they find a miniature collection from Kama Sutra, or other favorites, tucked into a hotel minibar or as a welcoming gift. "It give adds just a touch of excitement for couples - young and old - to find a romantic surprise in their room."
Kama Sutra boasts an impressive roster of clients that order on a regular basis. From the large casino hotels like the Hard Rock Hotel, Venetian, Wynn and Palms to resorts like the Ventana Inn, Miraval Spa and Green Valley Ranch. Kama Sutra also shows up on the menu at many big city hotels like the trendy Library hotel and Sofitel in New York. Chicago's Fairmont offers guests a 'romantic escape from the city' with breakfast in bed and a Kama Sutra Weekender kit among the perks.
Over in Daytona Beach, Florida, Verdell Ekberg, Director of Marketing for the city's only four-star hotel, the Shores Resort and Spa, is sold on Kama Sutra's appeal. "Kama Sutra products have helped turn our romance package 'Tantra' into the most popular package we sell," he says. The package also features spa treatments and a rose petal strewn bed - as well as strawberries and champagne to complete the experience.
