Portland Harbor Hotel Earns Third AAA Four Diamond Award
Property Remains Portland's only Four Diamond hotel
PORTLAND, ME, May 12, 2006. Portland Harbor Hotel, the stylish and sophisticated downtown hotel located in the city's hip Old Port waterfront shopping and dining neighborhood, has received the AAA Four-Diamond Award again for 2006. This is the third consecutive year that the Hotel has earned the award, by consistently demonstrating its commitment to providing an unsurpassed level of service and a regal hotel quality. AAA evaluates hotels based on exterior grounds, public areas, room decor and ambiance, guest room amenities, bathrooms, housekeeping, management, and guest services. The Award was presented Thursday, May 11, to Portland Harbor Hotel and twenty-one other Maine hotels and restaurants, at a lavish dinner prepared by Chef Jeff Landry, Executive Chef at Eve's at the Garden, Portland Harbor Hotel's four-star restaurant.
"The AAA Four Diamond Award is more than a rating looked for by travelers," said Gerard Kiladjian, General Manager. "It acts as recognition of our expert staff, further motivating them to continue diligently delivering the best possible experience for our guests. The Award also encourages local residents to take advantage of Portland Harbor Hotel's many amenities."
Properties in the running for this prestigious Award are evaluated by a AAA representative without prior notification, a process that involves at least one unannounced inspection and one overnight visit each year. Hotels must excel in all areas to be considered for the Four Diamond Award. When rating a hotel, AAA takes the size, age, and overall appeal of an establishment into consideration, as well as regional architectural style and design. Four Diamond properties are upscale in all areas. Accommodations are progressively refined and stylish. The physical attributes reflect an obvious enhanced level of quality throughout. The fundamental hallmarks at this level include an extensive array of amenities, combined with a high degree of hospitality, service, and attention to detail. AAA Diamond Ratings represent a combination of the overall quality, the range of facilities, and the level of services offered by a property.
Kiladjian added, "We continue to 'go above and beyond' to present the Portland Harbor Hotel brand as the preferred choice for upscale business and leisure travelers." To build its reputation for quality, the staff at the Hotel participates in detailed etiquette trainings from the elite Protocol School of Washington. In addition, senior managers at the Hotel are tenured travel and tourism industry professionals. The combined impact of these factors has created what Kiladjian refers to as Portland Harbor Hotel's "art of hospitality."
The Portland Harbor Hotel also received official notification this spring that the property had been recommended for inclusion in Cond'e Nast Johansens 2006 Guide to Recommended Hotels, Inns and Resorts & Spas for the Americas, Atlantic, Caribbean and Pacific. Only four Maine hotel properties were selected for the 2006 Guide. In addition to Portland Harbor Hotel, these properties include Balance Rock Inn, The Lodge at Moosehead Lake, and The White Barn Inn.
