Dubai Woos Siberia, Ural Tourists

DUBAI, UAE, June 20, 2006. The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) is making a sustained efforts to attract a greater number of tourists from Russia, CIS and the Baltic region.

It has achieved this with a series of promotional roadshows and workshops in five cities including Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tyumen, Ufa and Ekaterinburg.

The roadshows covered the Western Siberia and the Ural region starting with Novosibirsk (June 4) and proceeding to Krasnoyarsk (June 6), and Tyumen (June 7).

It concluded with the final roadshows and workshops being held at Ufa (June 8) and Ekaterinburg (June 10).

Mr. Khalifa Ali Buamaim, DTCM Manager Overseas Promotions, said : "The DTCM has sustained its efforts to woo a larger number of tourists from Russia, CIS and the Baltic region. Our promotional roadshows and workshops are an indication of our commitment to the Russian market."

The DTCM was joined by 10 co-participants from the public and the private sectors: Alpha Tours, Al Fajer Travel & Tourism, Destinations of the World, Royal Park Tourism Services, Net Group of Companies, Department of Civil Aviation, Oasis Adventures, Royal Arabian Tours, Desert Adventures Tourism and Al Bustan Residence - Hotel Apartments.

More than 1,500 invitations were sent out to the travel and tourism professionals and tour operators in the region. The roadshows evoked a very positive response in terms of turnout as well as outreach. A large number of DTCM brochures and promotional materials were distributed among those who attended.

There were special raffle draws at each of the venues of the workshops and free hotel accommodation and excursion vouchers were handed over to the winners. A special co-participant award for the best presentation were among the special highlights of the course.

Promotional material including the Russian version of "Destination Dubai" 2006-2007, interactive CD titled "Discover Dubai" and "Dubai At A Glance" pocket book were distributed among the Russian travel and tour operators.

In the appraisal form distributed among the Russian tourists about Dubai, 99.7 per cent indicated that they were very happy about their trip to Dubai.
