Embassy Suites Columbus - Airport Opens
New Airport Property Marks First Design Option III Prototype and Flying Spoons Restaurant in Ohio.
SEPTEMBER 2, 2009 - Embassy Suites Hotels announces the highly-anticipated opening of the Embassy Suites Columbus - Airport, featuring the brand's new Design Option III Prototype and Flying Spoons Restaurant. The contemporary upscale property is located at 2886 Airport Drive and constructed by Troy, Ohio-based Brackett Builders Inc. and designed by Gahanna-based Bird Houk Collaborative. The property is owned by Airport Core Hotels, LLC, and managed by Indus Companies, both of Columbus, Ohio.
The Embassy Suites Columbus - Airport is the area's first full-service all-suites property built in more than nine years and is the third Embassy Suites in Columbus. The 198-suite hotel spans seven floors and 176,000 sq. ft. and is conveniently located just two miles from the Port Columbus International Airport and 15 minutes from downtown Columbus. The hotel is also minutes from Easton, Polaris, Nationwide Arena and The Ohio State University. The property will create 120 jobs for the local economy.
"We are thrilled to expand our presence in Columbus, opening the third Embassy Suites, which will also be the third Design Option III prototype to open in the U.S.," said Jim Holthouser, global head of full-service brands, Hilton Hotels Corporation. "Roughly 75% of our development pipeline of 51 hotels is the Design Option III build, which has been well-received by both the development community and our guests. With Design Option III, we have opened up the Embassy Suites brand to developers who have believed building an Embassy was a challenge due to the rising costs of real estate and construction."
The hotel's Design Option III design allows guests the same amenities as traditional Embassy Suites properties but is more cost effective and environmentally friendly, with its suites characterized by a more residential-feel.
Flying Spoons is the "hip-casual" restaurant, mirroring part-European-style caf'e and part-American coffeehouse, presenting guests with the option of a lighter fare and features fresh soups, salads and gourmet sandwiches, as well as more sophisticated dinner options like salmon, scallops and local flavors and specialties. The menu will also include a rotating selection of pastries and desserts, along with specialty coffees, teas and boutique soft drinks. Guests also have the option of dining at one of the many restaurants in the area serving a variety of cuisines. The restaurant is conveniently open for customers from 5 a.m. until 1 a.m. and is located in the hotel lobby.
"We are excited to open the third Embassy Suites in Columbus and to welcome leisure and business travelers alike to our contemporary, environmentally-minded hotel," said General Manager Dirk Bengel. "In this down economy, we are happy to be able to offer our guests a unique value proposition from Embassy Suites, which includes a two-room suite, complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast and manager's reception with their stay."
The property features seven function rooms with almost 12,000 sq. ft. of meeting and pre-function space, complete with catering services and state-of-the-art audiovisual capabilities. In addition, a state-of-the-art Precor fitness center equipped with the latest in cardiovascular and weight equipment, as well as an indoor heated pool with whirlpool is offered to all guests. Both the King and Double Suites boast a desk with an ergonomic chair, mobile furnishings that allow guests to create their own unique living space and flat screen televisions. Travelers can also enjoy a complimentary, cooked-to-order breakfast, evening Manager's Reception*, complimentary wireless Internet access, complimentary parking and airport shuttle.
