InterContinental San Juan Partners with Komen Foundation
ISLA VERDE, PR, September 10, 2009 - The InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casino has partnered with the Puerto Rico Affiliate of Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure by becoming the hotel sponsor of the 5K race, scheduled for October 11 at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum.
In an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer in October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the InterContinental San Juan will light its exterior pink by participating in the local Lights For the Cure campaign to encourage women to schedule a mammogram.
The lights go pink at the InterContinental San Juan on October 1 at sunset (6:43 p.m.) and will remain lit throughout the month as a reminder to stay vigilant in the fight for a cure.
At the hotel lighting ceremony, guests and supporters will be able to purchase Susan G. Komen fundraising merchandise to assist in raising awareness.
Other pink initiatives at the resort include promoting a signature drink called Pink Ribbon, comprised of Frozen Strawberry Mix, Sour Mix and Rose Syrup with a hot pink sugar rim and rose petals for garnish. The lobby will also display pink flower arrangements throughout the month.
"We want to help educate our guests and employees about the importance of making a difference in the fight against breast cancer," said Sharon Kilmartin, general manager at the InterContinental San Juan. "Our partnership with Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure allows us to educate thousands of travelers and their families.
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.
