Calama is the capital of the province of Loa in Northern Chile. Calama is a refreshing oasis in the middle of the most arid desert in the world. It has become the starting point for tours to a series of small villages of Aymara (Andean ethnic group) origin. Points of interest in Calama include Padre Le Paige Archaeological Museum, Apache Ojo Beach - a natural pool and waterfall, Chuquicamata - the largest open-cut mine in the world, San Pedro de Atacama, and the Geysers of El Tatio. The area is serviced by the El Loa Airport (CJC) in Calama.
