NBTA Encourages Congress to Reauthorize FAA

. September 27, 2009

ALEXANDRIA, VA, September 26, 2009 - The National Business Travel Association (NBTA), the largest association of business travel professionals, praised Senators John D. Rockefeller IV (D-WV) and Byron L. Dorgan (D-ND) for pushing legislation (S 1451) that would reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to be brought up quickly on the Senate floor. Along with important safety provisions, the bill promises to make the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) a reality that will benefit millions of business travelers and their employers.

"Today's air travel control system is antiquated, and business travelers are suffering delays and lost productivity as a result. This reauthorization is long overdue." said NBTA President & CEO Craig Banikowski, CCTE, C.P.M., CMM. "It is imperative that the Senate pass this reauthorization bill and send it to the President for his signature."

NBTA has called upon its members and the corporate travel community as a whole to speak out about the importance of a quick FAA reauthorization. Business travel professionals can access the NBTA Legislative Action Center to compose a letter to their Senator urging the passage of legislation that would create an efficient and safe transportation network. Letters can be created at and sent from www.nbta.org/legislativeactioncenter.

Banikowski continued, "I am pleased Senators Rockefeller and Dorgan have taken action to see that FAA reauthorization legislation moves through Congress quickly. NBTA has long supported the modernization of our nation's outdated air traffic infrastructure through the implementation of NextGen, and passing this bill will move us closer to ensuring the long-term stability and safety of our aviation system."
