Rex Warren Joins the Faculty of Hospitality College at Johnson & Wales University
SEPTEMBER 30, 2009 - Rex Warren, former senior vice president and chief financial officer for the North America Division of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide has joined the faculty of The Hospitality College at Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Providence campus.
"With nearly 30 years of hotel experience, Professor Warren will be a rich resource for both our students and faculty," Robert M. Kok, chair, International Hotel School says. "His expertise complements the experience of our respected educators and his personal knowledge adds significant strength and breadth in corporate strategy, finance, accounting and particularly revenue management."
As an assistant professor, Warren will enable JWU students to deepen their connections from classroom to career. During his first term with the university, he will be teaching Front Office Operations and Strategic Marketing. Subsequently, he will be teaching classes in Revenue Management, Strategic Management and Marketing.
For the past 11 years, Warren was with Starwood where he was a part of a leadership team that led the multi-billion dollar operations of one of the world's largest hotel and leisure companies whose brands include St. Regis(R),The Luxury Collection(R), W(R), Westin(R), Le M'eridien(R), Sheraton(R), Four Points(R), AloftSM, and ElementSM. Previously, Warren was a regional director of finance for Interstate Hotels and Resorts then headquartered in Pittsburgh, Penna. from 1988 until 1998. For nearly a decade, he was with Metro Hotels of Dallas where he worked across the southwest. In the early 1980s, Warren and his family designed, built and operated Scampi's Restaurant and Bar, a successful establishment on South Padre Island, Tex.
Prior to joining JWU, Warren was a member of the adjunct faculty at New York University's Tisch School of Hospitality, and the University of Nevada's Distance Education program.
He earned a bachelor of science degree in Hotel Administration and a master of science in Hospitality Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Warren is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), currently licensed in Texas, and a Certified Hospitality Accounting Executive (CHAE).
