Ten Malaysian GMs Receive CHA Designation from Malaysian Association of Hotels

December 9, 2009 - The Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) which is issued by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute, (AHLEI) is the most prestigious certification available to a hotel general manager and hospitality executive. It is part of an elite group of hospitality professionals who by combining education and experience with dedication to the industry have achieved a high level of expertise.

In Malaysia, the CHA is offered through the Malaysian Association of Hotels Training and Education Centre (MAHTEC) through an exclusive arrangement with Stamford College Malaysia the master licensee for (AHLEI) in Malaysia.

MAHTEC facilitates this 5 day program which includes a comprehensive examination. The facilitator for the program, Mr Jimmy Chow CHA, has held this designation for almost 20 years.

Since MAHTEC started facilitating the CHA, a total of 20 General Managers have received the designation.

The 10 new CHAs are:

  • Andre J Sibert of Avillion Hotels International,
  • Adrian Teow of Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya,
  • Christina Toh of Dorsett Regency KL,
  • James Ong of Alpha Genesis Hotel KL ,
  • Kenny Teo of Pacific Regency Hotel Suites,
  • Mohd Rafi Abdullah of Carlton Hotel and Suites Shah Alam,
  • Siegfried Steindl of Hotel Equatorial Penang,
  • Teles P Fernandez of Tradewinds Corporation Berhad and
  • Victor Foo of First World Hotel & Resorts Genting

Globally recognized, the CHA is a highly respected professional credential that validates one's advanced knowledge in the hospitality industry. It is an honor awarded to lodging professionals whose leadership and managerial abilities are exemplary.

Achieving the CHA certification announces that one has a place among the best in the profession, are abreast of current trends and latest hospitality protocols; and serves as leverage in current and future career opportunities.

Once certified, designees are automatically enrolled in the CHA Recertification Program, which recognizes and rewards continuing efforts toward hospitality career growth. Designees are also allowed to include CHA after their name.

He added that he is confident that more GMs would subscribe to this program in the future.” Other designations offered by the Educational Institute and MAHTEC for 2010 will be the Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT), Certified Hospitality Department Trainer (CHDT), Certified Food and Beverage Executive (CFBE) and Certified Rooms Division Executive (CRDE).
