The Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe is Open

. December 14, 2009

alt text DECEMBER 11, 2009 - After five years in the making, the Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe finally opened its doors to the public today. (Lucky first guests/skiers at the 170-room property were treated to a fresh snowfall.)

The $300-million-dollar, mid-mountain resort—the first new-build property in the area in decades—features a luxe mountain lodge design (think wood aeries, lots of stone, fireplaces galore, and soaring windows to let the outdoors in) and a gondola full of amenities for skiers and non-skiers alike.

Some of the resort's notable highlights include:

  • Ski-in, ski-out access
  • Ski concierge
  • 17,000-square-foot-spa
  • Award-winning James Beard Chef Traci des Jardins-created restaurant
  • Highlands Gondola for connecting with Village-at-Northstar
  • Great location (15-minute drive from the charming town of Truckee and Lake Tahoe)
  • Green construction and amenities (the resort is seeking LEED certification)
  • Stunning peak views (of course!)
