Shattuck Plaza Appoints Monica Schafer F&B Director
BERKELEY, CA - April 8, 2010 - The historic Hotel Shattuck Plaza announces the appointment of Monica Schafer as Director of Food and Beverage. Schafer will oversee the hotel's signature restaurant, FIVE, along with all day in-room dining service and catering for more than 8,000 square feet of banquet space.
As the number one hotel in Berkeley according to TripAdvisor reviews, Schafer will maintain the top quality services that Hotel Shattuck Plaza offers its guests. As Director of Food and Beverage, she will obtain maximum results in the food and beverage areas, coordinate all food and beverage related functions, oversee provisions and inventory control, and ensure the quality levels, performance and standards of service are maintained for FIVE restaurant, bar Five, in-room dining and banquet space.

Schafer's hotel background began with classical training in both restaurant and kitchen operations at various properties in Spain and Switzerland. Her career highlights include working at La Valencia Hotel, Joie de Vivre Hotels and worldwide hotel brands such as Hilton Hotels, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.
She comes to Hotel Shattuck Plaza from La Valencia Hotel in San Diego, CA, where she was the food and beverage manager for the hotel's four restaurants and two bars. Prior to La Valencia Hotel, she worked for various San Francisco restaurants including O Izakaya Lounge, Americano Restaurant and the Tonga Room at The Fairmont San Francisco.
Schafer graduated from the renowned Les Roches University of Hotel Management in Switzerland with a bachelor degree in Business Administration - Hospitality Management and a minor in Marketing.
