GVB Sponsors 10th Annual Guam Extreme Adventure Race on May 30
TUMON, Guam - April 24, 2010 - Guam Visitors Bureau wants to know if you have it in you. In cooperation with Hornet Sports and PCR Environmental Inc., GVB will sponsor the 10th Annual Guam Extreme Adventure Race (GEAR) on May 30. The 24-hour competition, arguably Guam's most challenging athletic feat, will take test teams of two to four athletes with a course of mountain biking, kayaking, navigation, swimming and more.
“GEAR is not only a great test of strength for these athletes, but it's an opportunity for them to discover a lot about Guam - most of which will be sites and experiences the typical visitor won't see,” said GVB Deputy General Manager Ernie A. Galito. “This is the ultimate test for athletes and thrill seekers across Asia and North America. We're excited to see who the top finishers will be.”
Competitors may now register online at www.guamextreme.com or pick up a form at Hornet Sports in Tamuning. Early bird registration deadline is Friday, April 30. Registration will close on Friday, May 14.
“Athletes from around Asia will be challenged by one of the most incredibly beautiful courses yet designed as we enter our tenth year,” said GEAR race director James Oelke. “We welcome all racers to and from Guam. It is a unique island with a variety of different terrains that will have to be traversed as a four person team in a race format; yet their real competition will be from the climate and the running clock.”
The course will not be revealed to competitors until about an hour before race start, with the start site provided only 12 hours prior. Completion times for championship teams are expected to be within the 14-16 hour range.
PRO teams (four racers) will complete the entire course. SOCIAL teams (two racers) will complete an abbreviated course containing at least one section from each discipline. Expected completion times for the social course is 6-8 hours.
