. October 14, 2008

JANUARY 18, 2007. Mark Hickey, senior vice president of operations for Destination Hotels & Resorts, announced that the company has selected Roland Maldonado as the new general manager for Hotel ICON in Houston. Destination Hotels & Resorts recently assumed management of the well-known Houston hotel.

"Roland is a great example of how Destination Hotels & Resorts provides associates with opportunities to grow their career," said Hickey. "He joined our company in the mid-1990s as a special services manager and has risen in the ranks over the years in both operations and food and beverage. Roland has been hotel manager and general manager for a number of Destination properties and we believe his past successes will help him lead Hotel ICON into the future."

Maldonado has more than 25 years of hospitality experience. He joins Hotel ICON from Destination's Hamilton Park Hotel & Conference Center in Florham Park, New Jersey where he has been general manager since 2005. At Hamilton Park, Maldonado led the property through a $9 million renovation.

Prior to being promoted to Hamilton Park, Maldonado was the hotel manager for NINE ZERO Hotel in Boston, which was managed by Destination until April 2006. During his tenure at NINE ZERO, the hotel was consistently listed among the top hotels in the world by domestic and international publications including the "Gold List: World's Best Places to Stay 2004-2006" by Cond'e Nast Traveler and "Top 101 Hotels in the World for 2005" by Tatler (UK) Travel Guide.

"We believe Roland's experience at NINE ZERO will have a great impact on Hotel ICON,' said Hickey. "These properties have similar characteristics with award-winning restaurants, exemplary service and an eclectic design style."

Maldonado also worked for Destination's Vail Cascade Resort & Spa in Colorado and the iconic Hotel del Coronado in San Diego during the company's tenure with the property. He began his career with Destination at The Inverness Hotel & Conference Center in Denver.

The move to Texas returns Maldonado to the state where his hospitality career began in the early 1980s. During that decade he worked for Four Seasons Hotels in Las Colinas and San Antonio. He also held a leadership position at The Fairmont Hotel in San Antonio. Maldonado was born and raised in Spain and has a passion for cooking and travel. He is a graduate of St. Phillips College in San Antonio. He also studied at Le Cordon Blue in Paris, France. Maldonado is excited to be relocating to Houston and will be joined by his family in by the end of this January.
