Mövenpick Opens Fourth Property in UAE

New hotel in 'Old Dubai' Deira gets first international five-star hotel in a decade.

January 24, 2011 - The upscale hotel management company, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts opened its fourth hotel in the United Arab Emirates this month, the Mövenpick Hotel Deira, bringing its portfolio to a total of 69 properties in key international destinations.

The 216-room hotel is Deira's first international five-star property for more than ten years and is situated in the heart of Dubai's early commercial district on the north side of the city's arterial waterway, Dubai Creek.

The hotel is less than three minutes' walk from a Metro station and fifteen minutes from Dubai International Airport, whilst offering easy access to many of Dubai's government offices, the trading district and traditional landmarks such as the Spice Souq and Gold Souq.

Michael Nugent, the general manager at the Mövenpick Hotel Deira said that the property is filling a demand for affordable upscale accommodation in Deira from business executives, as well as destination travellers and inquisitive shoppers.

“While Dubai has been on a building boom, Deira's five-star hospitality sector has been somewhat stagnant and we mean to fill this void by bringing in some new energy into Old Dubai,” he said.

Golfers will also benefit from the newest destination in Deira, with six golf courses within easy reach and all less than 25 minutes away.

Nugent noted that the hotel is designed as a 'new-era heritage property in the city offering the latest in efficiency and comfort'. All guest rooms and suites are designed to offer modern comfort in a relaxed setting. The hotel incorporates an executive floor as well as 25 suites - 13 junior and 12 executive.

For corporate and social events, the hotel is thoughtfully equipped with seven dedicated rooms for private meetings and functions for up to 90 guests - all with natural daylight. Meanwhile, instant Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel's public areas giving swift global connectivity, backed up by around-the-clock support from the Business Services team.

Turning to restaurants, the Mövenpick Hotel Deira has three dining options comprising two restaurants and a bar. Jigsaw is open daily until late, offering a la carte and a buffet selection 'with a difference'. Wok In's intention is to represent the spirit of the Far East with interactive cooking taking place 'centre stage' in the contemporary Asian restaurant. Wok In Bar has its sights set on being a sought-after local rendezvous and features live entertainment.

Fitness is not forgotten and the Mövenpick Hotel Deira has a rooftop pool and a well equipped gym. Guests also enjoy access to the private beach, lazy river and infinity pool at Oceana Beach Club on The Palm Jumeirah. The beach club is less than 25 minutes away by hotel shuttle.

The Mövenpick Hotel Deira is one of four projects from Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts and the Dubai-based real estate developer, Seven Tides, including the 396-room Ibn Battuta Gate in New Dubai which opened last October. Later this year, the 324-room Oceana Hotel & Spa at the Oceana Beach Club and the 293-room Royal Amwaj Resort & Spa will open on the Palm Jumeirah.
