Jet-set Pets Check-in at the Buckingham

Husband and Wife Duo Unite Personal Passions to Provide Unique Services at New-York's "Pet-Friendlie

. October 14, 2008

NEW YORK, NY, February 2, 2007. The Buckingham Hotel has announced that vacationers can now share their travel experiences with their canine or feline companion with an extensive program of special amenities and exclusive services provided by Manhattan's premier veterinarian, Dr. Amy Attas of CityPets.

The "pet friendliest" hotel in Manhattan, The Buckingham offers star treatment to its four-legged guests with "Vet to the Stars" Amy Attas and her staff on hand - and literally in-house. Attas, who is married to the Buckingham's Managing Partner Stephen Shapiro, runs CityPets, the premier New York-based pet service devoted to the health and well-being of urban cats and dogs. CityPets is the City's - and possibly the world's - largest house-call veterinary practice, providing veterinary services to over 5,000 Manhattan cats and dogs, including many "celebrity pets" - such as those belonging to Joan rivers, Naomi Campbell, Uma Thurman, Kate Hudson, Erica Jong, Blaine Trump, John McEnroe, Cher, Billy Joel and more.

Unlike ordinary veterinary practices, CityPets provides in-room examinations and vaccinations for traveling dogs and cats; each appointment is staffed by one of Manhattan's top veterinarians and a trained veterinary assistant. This is a particularly valuable service, for example, if a pet needs a health certificate for travel outside the United States or falls ill while away from home.

"As both avid travelers and pet lovers, Amy and I understand the concerns of travelers with a pet, especially in an unfamiliar city," Shapiro said. "At the Buckingham, we believe that the health and well being of our "pet guests" is as important as the comfort of our human guests." Shapiro, who lives on property with Attas and their own two pugs.

Attas beings nearly 17 years of Manhattan veterinary experience. She has been featured in Town & Country, the New York Sun, and the New York Observer, among other publications, and writes a regular column for Good Housekeeping and has a weekly radio spot called "Pets and the City" on the business Travel Radio Network.

According to the latest report by The Travel Industry Association of America (TIA), approximately 30 million Americans travel with a pet on a trip of 50 miles or more and 29% of them share a hotel or motel room with their pet. The Buckingham Hotel recognizes that pet-friendly travel is an increasingly popular trend, but the Hotel goes far beyond the simple offer of luxury pet-friendly lodging at affordable prices.

The Buckingham's Pet-Friendly Services

In addition to four-star medical treatment, while guests are in residence at the Buckingham Hotel, dog walking can be arranged with a professional, insured and bonded service, 365 days a year. For added convenience, walk times are available between 7am and 10pm, and Hotel guests have a choice of 10 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour in Central Park, just a block away. Of course, the walks can be customized to accommodate pooches of varying sizes. All pet services, such as pet sitting, walking, grooming and veterinary examinations, can be arranged with the Buckingham's concierge.

Through special arrangement, the Buckingham Hotel guests can also pamper their dogs with a day at world-famous "Biscuits and Bath," New York's leading doggie-spa. Dogs are picked up at the Buckingham Hotel and brought to one of "Biscuits and Bath's" several Manhattan locations for a day of fitness or grooming and supervised play with other dogs, while owners can take advantage of the Buckingham's prime 57th Street location by visiting cultural landmarks such as Carnegie Hall, the Museum of Modern Art and Lincoln Center, or hitting the stores a block away on fashionable Fifth Avenue.
