WELLINGTON, New Zealand, February 7, 2007. Millennium Hotels and Resorts New Zealand has announced its 33rd property in New Zealand, the Kingsgate Hotel Portland, Wellington, commencing under a franchise agreement on March 1.

The property is the group's third in Wellington, and is located just 500 metres north of the city centre in Thorndon. It is the closest hotel to the Westpac Stadium, inter-island ferries and all major government departments.

Managing Director of Millennium and Copthorne Hotels New Zealand, Mr. B K Chiu said Kingsgate Hotel Portland, Wellington was one of the group's several recent additions in top visitor destinations throughout New Zealand.

"As well as being New Zealand's capital city and a major commercial centre, Wellington offers a wide range of cultural, sporting and leisure activities for the visitor. This hotel is strategically located within the capital city to make the most of surrounding visitor attractions, and complements our two other Wellington properties to provide choice of location to our guests in the capital city," Mr Chiu said.

"The addition of this high quality hotel is a further boost to Millennium Hotels and Resorts' leading role in the New Zealand tourism industry," he added.

Kingsgate Hotel Portland, Wellington adds to Millennium Hotels and Resorts New Zealand's growing portfolio of Millennium, Copthorne and Kingsgate branded properties. The group is New Zealand's largest owner and operator of hotels.

The hotel, which has undergone a refurbishment late last year, is conveniently located in the central government area of Thorndon, New Zealand's oldest and historic suburb. Its restaurant, bar and large conference centre are complemented by 108 guest rooms which boast magnificent city skyline views.

Matt Taplin, Millennium Hotels and Resorts Director of Operations said the group was delighted to add this attractive hotel to its portfolio.

"This property is just a stone's throw from Westpac Stadium, home to the Wellington Hurricanes, and the International New Zealand Rugby Sevens tournament which attracts more visitors to Wellington than any other single event," he said. "Together with the owners, we look forward to welcoming both leisure and business visitors to Kingsgate Hotel Portland Wellington, in the heart of New Zealand's capital city."

The hotel complements the group's other two Wellington properties, the Copthorne Hotel Wellington Plimmer Towers in the centre of Wellington's financial and shopping areas, and the harbourside Kingsgate Hotel Oriental Bay, Wellington, soon to be rebranded as a Copthorne Hotel, which is undergoing a $10 million makeover.
