. February 06, 2014

South Lake Tahoe, California - February 6, 2014 - The Landing Resort & Spa upped Lake Tahoe's glamour factor on Friday and Saturday, January 24 and 25, with a star-studded event to celebrate the opening of the area's first five-star boutique lakeside resort. Owners of The Landing Jim and Nancy Demetriades flew in 50 close friends - including Heidi Klum and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds - on a private jet from L.A. for the festivities. A select guest list of 250 VIPs filled The Landing's Grand Ballroom, where they were treated to entertainment including a private Babyface concert and a Greek-inspired menu prepared by British celebrity chef Maria Elia.

Media was on hand for the red carpet event, which included photo opps with Klum and Edmonds. “Lake Tahoe is absolutely gorgeous and The Landing Resort & Spa is the perfect hotel in this location. I've had a wonderful time and can't wait to return for a future visit,” says Klum about her first chance to visit her friends' new hotel since its December opening.

British celebrity chef Maria Elia, renowned for her fresh take on traditional Greek cuisine, designed the menu for The Landing's new Jimmy's Restaurant, where she is resort chef. Elia was on hand Saturday night, preparing delicious offerings for the crowd that included beet keftedes with spiced seed and pickle couscous and tahini yoghurt, a wood rotisserie-roasted pig with apple and fennel tzatziki, slow-roasted spiced lamb baba ganoush with shredded cucumber, mint and pomegranates, and a mini fig, mavrodaphne and chocolate baklava. Guests also had the opportunity to custom-design Greek delicacies at Jimmy's Gyros Bar.

“We're in the business of creating memories, and tonight we've created memories with our friends, the Lake Tahoe community, and our guests,” says owner Demetriades. “We are excited to create the first five-star resort on Lake Tahoe in such a stunning setting.”

Following a red carpet entrance, Grammy award-winner Babyface shared new songs from his about-to-be released album with Toni Braxton, “Love, Marriage & Divorce,” in a private concert in the ballroom to a standing-room only crowd.

Guest rooms at The Landing Resort & Spa feature luxurious contemporary European style furnishings and the old world charm of wood floors, marble bathrooms, custom-made headboards and stonework - while also including such top modern amenities as 55-inch wall mounted televisions, in-room Keurig coffee service, pillow top beds with high thread-count linens, premium down pillows and comforters, plush robes, heated bathroom floors, heated toilet seats, waterfall showers, and private decks, most with a Lake Tahoe view.
