Cornell Awards Scholarships to Hotel Leaders in Europe
MARCH 27, 2007. The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration has awarded scholarships to three new members of the European Hotel Managers Association. Winners will use the scholarships to attend a course in the school's Professional Development Program in Brussels, or they may award the scholarship to an associate at their property.
Award recipients for 2007 are Michel Lebrun, general manager at Hotel Sofitel in Cannes, France; Ingo C. Peters, general manager at Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg, Germany; and Philippos Stamelos, general manager at Poros Image Hotel, on Poros Island, Greece.
'The Cornell Hotel School is pleased to support the European Hotel Managers Association and its members. EHMA and its members are keenly aware of the importance of life-long learning as illustrated by the large number of members who have attended and continue to attend Cornell programs,' says Tom Kline, the school's director of Executive Education. 'Our aim with the scholarships is to help accomplished leaders continue to develop new skills and knowledge that will keep their careers moving forward and the hotels they manage successful.'
Under the program, each year the Hotel School awards scholarships to three newly inducted members of the European Hotel Managers Association, which is comprised of general managers of luxury hotels across Europe. The awards, determined by a drawing among all new members, are presented on behalf of the school's Executive Education office. The school is a sponsor of the association's annual General Assembly, where the awards are granted.
Winners choose an intensive three-day course in a hospitality-specific area of study. Under the lead of internationally recognized faculty members and industry leaders, they build knowledge and skills to advance their careers. Participants also gain perspectives from across the globe, form new friendships and strengthen their professional networks.
