DURHAM, NH - December 24, 2014 - The University of New Hampshire Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics is accepting applications for its highly successful Hospitality Management Summer Program for rising high school seniors. The one-week, tuition free, program will take place July 19 -25, 2015 and will introduce 35 participants to the wide variety of careers available in the $3.5 trillion hospitality industry including hotels, resorts, event management, food service businesses and revenue management.

The Hospitality Management Summer Program is a first-class introduction to Hospitality Management for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in the industry. Throughout the week, participants experience the excitement of college life, take college courses with renowned faculty and meet with current students and alumni involved with the UNH Hospitality Management Program. Students are introduced to the scope of the hospitality industry, senior level executives and the market forces at play in this competitive field through presentations, hands-on experience, guest speakers and computer simulations. A typical day includes a morning field trip to Wentworth By the Sea in New Castle, NH where participants will learn firsthand how a four-star Marriott resort operates. In the afternoon participants will visit Newmarket International, the leading provider of sales and event planning software, and then return to campus for an evening event with hospitality management faculty and students.

Nelson Barber, chair and associate professor of the hospitality management program, developed and manages the Hospitality Management Summer Program. This past summer, students came from states as far away as California, Washington, Michigan and Pennsylvania to live on campus and participate in the program.

“The Hospitality Management Summer Program is designed to give students the opportunity to learn more about the hospitality industry, meet successful alumni and industry leaders, while experiencing what college life is all about at the state's flagship public university,” said Barber. “It's also a tremendous opportunity to immerse rising high school seniors into college life and to gain an appreciation for what the hospitality industry can offer as a career opportunity.”

New York high school student, Steven Lemay, attended the Hospitality Management Summer Program in 2014. Steven explained that the program clarified his passion for the industry and shaped his path for the future. “The Hospitality Management Summer Program helped me find the school that fits me best and also influenced me in what major I am interested in pursuing,” he said. “I could not be happier with what I got from this program, both personally and professionally, and I cannot wait to further my experience with UNH.”
