. June 03, 2015

London, England. - June 3, 2015. 101 Hotel Baths & Spas, the eagerly awaited third volume in JOI-Design's successful “101” series of interior design books, has now been released. Inspired by the momentum for holistic approaches to health, wellbeing, relaxation and fitness, this English language work by interior architecture specialists Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk and Peter Joehnk explores a variety of bathrooms and spas within evolving hotel environments.

Striking photos, renderings, hand sketches, floorplans, and perspective drawings throughout the book's 232 pages illustrate numerous possibilities for designing relaxing retreats with special appeal. Drawn from the vast portfolio created by the Hamburg-based studio over the last 30 years, the creative solutions range from international luxury resorts built with expansive facilities to boutique hotels fitted with small yet exquisite wellness areas. As well as providing inspiration for investors, developers, hoteliers, architects, interior designers and students, 101 Hotel Baths & Spas is a highly beneficial reference guide for international hotel design.

Vision / Creative Guideline:

In a world where digital connectivity and the pressure to be accessible 'round the clock are escalating, opportunities to relax, retreat and become consciously aware of one's body are increasingly sought out and regarded as essential. When it comes to bathroom and spa design, the cool sterility seen in years past is long gone. Today the aim is to create interior designs that are inspiring and sustainable, ones whose warmth and credibility make spaces feel soulful and authentic.

As a result, hotel baths and spas are being transformed into oases of wellness that nurture body, mind and soul. In response to guests' yearning to let go of the stresses of everyday life, bathrooms are becoming private resorts used not only for grooming, but to feel good, regain strength and let the mind wander.

This shift translates into interior designs which blend pampering details with the comforts of home so that all senses can be immersed in the experience. Inspired by renowned wellness spas, the desire to create calm, balanced and spacious atmospheres is reflected through natural materials such as stone and wood as well as warm, indirect sources of light.

In a globalized world where travelling from continent to continent is no longer rare, a diverse range of cultural preferences and practices are important to consider. As well as illustrating solutions that meet international expectations for functionality, the hotel bathrooms and spas depicted exemplify the importance of interior design providing a distinct sense of place, which in turn encourages the creation of cherished memories that guests wish to recapture during future visits.
