FT LAUDERDALE, FL, AUGUST 18, 2005. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau was awarded two prestigious Flagler Awards this week at the 38th Annual Governor's Conference, which recently concluded at The Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, Florida.

The Creativity in Public Relations Award was presented to Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, in recognition of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau's successful Here Comes the Sun campaign featuring the "Beach on Wheels."

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau created the Here Comes the Sun road show in 2004, a sales mission campaign concentrating on key market development, in an effort to support its leisure and group sales initiatives. The CVB also sought to favorably impact each market during cold weather months with positive images of Greater Fort Lauderdale and its appeal as a vacation and convention destination. To achieve this, the CVB created a "Beach on Wheels" - a 24-foot glass enclosure filled with live models, sand, palm trees, and other beach decoration - on the back of a truck. The "Beach on Wheels" proved to be a great success, generating more than six million impressions, with an advertising equivalency of more than $500,000.

The second Flagler Award for an Outstanding Resource or Promotional Material for a Trade Industry Audience was awarded to the Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB in recognition of its 2004 Greater Fort Lauderdale Meeting Planners Guide. The 76-page guide proved to be an invaluable resource to meeting planners and has helped the Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB grow its meetings and convention business.
