JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Receives Two Wine Spectator Awards

Recognized for providing outstanding wine lists with compelling selections

. August 21, 2015

Tucson, Ariz.- As a defining moment for the luxury resort, JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa is being honored with two prestigious Wine Spectator awards. The awards will appear in the August issue of Wine Spectator magazine. The resort's on-site restaurants, including Primo, earned this highly rated accolade through exceptionally consistent quality and service.

“To be recognized among the best of the best when it comes to our wine selection demonstrates the high standards we consistently maintain to ensure a well-rounded, quality dining experience at JW Marriott,” said Ian Broome, Beverage Manager. “We're honored to be acknowledged for our continued efforts toward providing world-class dining experiences.”

Primo, which has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in past years, is a sommelier's dream. True to its “Local. Fresh. Modern.” theme, the restaurant flaunts a 350-bottle wine list that promotes local Arizona wines. From 2-3:30 p.m., every first and third Saturday of the month, guests are invited to swirl, sniff and sip their way to a basic working wine knowledge with Primo's wine classes. The classes feature five wines, paired with bite-size appetizers and expert instruction from the restaurant's experienced professionals. Receives

In order to maintain their high wine knowledge, staff also participate in weekly international wine tastings. Primo also educates JW Marriott associates by having monthly Wine Ambassador meetings to improve the understanding of interested team members. This effort results in an exceptionally knowledgeable staff, many of whom can recognize the nuances in a glass of wine.

To qualify for a Wine Spectator award, an establishment's list must present complete, accurate wine information. Vintage selections as well as a wide selection of labels must be available, along with an extensive wine-by-the-glass menu. The overall presentation and appearance of the list are considered, with mindfulness paid to spelling, accuracy and correct attribution to varietal names.

Of the honorees of this year's awards, seven were from Arizona, with JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass claiming two. The commitment of the resort's restaurateurs to building high-quality wine programs continues to impress. There has never been a more exciting time to be an Arizona wine lover.
