Los Cabos, A Year After the Passage of Hurricane Odile

. September 24, 2015

LOS CABOS, ME. September 24, 2015 - A year after Hurricane Odile left severe damage to infrastructure in Los Cabos, the Mexican destination has shown great strength and responsiveness, as it currently operates at almost 100%. The affected hotels, restaurants and services now sport a new and improved look and the destination forecasts significant growth over the next several years.

The quick recovery, due to remarkable coordination between all government agencies, has made it possible for 60 of the Hotel Associations 66 properties to be back in operation with the other six set to open in the coming months including: Casa del Mar, El Ganzo, Dreams, Me Cabo, Melia Cabo Real and The Westin Resort & Spa.

Additionally, Los Cabos saw an increase in airlift with 101,000 seats added in the first half of 2015 and more to be added later this year. On October 8, Alaska Airlines will plan to launch service from Orange County while Southwest Airlines plans to launch a flight from Hobby Airport in Houston on October 15, with more services set to launch from John F. Kennedy airport in New York City via Delta Airlines as well as Toronto via WestJet.

"Its great to see most of the destination's hotels back to normal and look forward to what's next" said Ruben Reachi, Los Cabos Tourism Board Managing Director. "The Air Route Committee has reported a 39% growth in seat supply to Los Cabos in the past five years and with so much on the horizon it is only natural that this will continue to grow."

Looking ahead, the destination has plans to welcome over 4,000 new rooms over the next three years from hotels and brands such as VieVage Los Cabos from Auberge Resorts, Montage Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott, Mar Adentro by Encanto, Breathless by AM Resorts, Le Blanc Spa Resort, Ritz Carlton Reserve, Park Hyatt, NoBu and Solaz, part of Starwood's Luxury collection. In addition, three new golf courses and an extension are planned including the East Cape Vidanta course designed by Greg Norman, Rancho San Lucas also by Greg Norman, Diamante Cabo San Lucas designed by Tiger Woods and nine additional holes by Jack Nicklaus in Puerto Los Cabos are expected.
