Kimpton's SoCal Hotels Infuse Local Flavors into Meetings and Events

From Craft Brew & Cooking Classes to Spa & SUP, Palomar San Diego, Hotel Solamar and Canary Santa Barbara Enrich Corporate Programming with Local Experiences

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 13, 2015-Three of Kimpton's Southern California hotels announced today plans to further enhance group meetings and events at each location. Starting January 2016, Palomar San Diego, Hotel Solamar and Canary Santa Barbara will be offering small groups opportunities to enrich their meetings, breakouts and events with authentic local experiences by 'staying in' or 'venturing out.'

With San Diego consistently ranked as a top microbrew city, groups booking meetings and events at Palomar San Diego and Hotel Solamar can now experience the local craft beer culture through an urban tour. The 'venture out' add-on will include a private outing on So Diego's signature “Brothels, Bites and Booze” tour, which offers an in-depth look at San Diego's famous red light district, complete with stories on popular brothels and Prohibition-era gangsters.Additionally, the two-and-a-half hour walking tour includes food and beer tastings from some of downtown's best restaurants and America's top microbreweries, including Hotel Solamar's Jsix Restaurant.

For the 'stay in' option, Palomar San Diego is giving groups full access to its luxe 5,500-square-foot Nature's Spa by Jurlique, with discounts on select treatments, for the team to recharge from travel and meetings. At Hotel Solamar, groups can 'stay in' and enjoy a private cooking class with the chef or join in a craft cocktail competition, led by the hotel's mixologist.

At Canary Santa Barbara, the 'stay in' option will offer groups a closer look at Santa Barbara's vast wine culture with local wine tastings and food pairings, held on the hotel's famed rooftop. The tastings will be held in partnership with local wineries. For the 'venture out' experience, groups can master their stand up paddle boarding skills as a team, with a 90-minute guided lesson on one of Santa Barbara's pristine beaches or the marina.

“Whether it's in the heart of downtown San Diego or Santa Barbara, our Southern California hotels have become engrained in their city's culture,” said Jim Hollister, director of operations for Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants in Southern California and Arizona. “The new corporate programming will not only provide groups with exceptional team bonding and downtime opportunities, but will also give guests insight into neighborhood and the great experiences these beautiful California cities offer.”
