Iberostar Expands Cuban Portfolio

APRIL 20, 2007. Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has opened a new hotel in Cuba, the Iberostar Playa Alameda Hotel. This is Iberostar's third property in the popular resort town of Varadero, and fifth on the island in total.

The new five-star all-inclusive resort is located on the kilometre-long Varadero Beach, also known as Playa Azul or 'blue beach'. Set within lush tropical gardens, the hotel features two swimming pools, a boutique, health and fitness facilities, and a wide range of activities and entertainment. There are also three `a la carte restaurants, a buffet restaurant, a traditional Cuban Ranch'on restaurant and bar, a lobby bar, snack bar and beach bar.

Heike Genshow, Marketing Director for Iberostar Hotels & Resorts comments 'This new Cuban property is a great addition to our portfolio on the island and has already proved to be a hit with the Brits. Since our opening in January, 12% of guests have been British, a figure which we hope will continue to rise."

The hotel fitness centre has a gym and a sauna and also offers massage. Additional activities at the hotel include tennis and table tennis, volleyball, windsurfing, kayaking, water polo, aerobics and dance classes. There are also opportunities to do open sea diving, horse riding, bowling and golf nearby. Children are well catered for too with a Miniclub for 4-12 year olds, a children's pool, a games room, kids' entertainment and babysitting on request.

All 391 rooms at the all-inclusive hotel have either a balcony or a terrace. The all-inclusive service includes a buffet breakfast, a choice of a buffet lunch or lunch at the beachside Ranch'on restaurant, dinner at the main buffet, Italian, gourmet or seafood restaurants, snacks and drinks and is available 24-hours a day.

Iberostar's two other properties in Varadero are the five star Iberostar Varadero Hotel and the four star Iberostar Tainos Hotel. The remaining Iberostar properties in Cuba are the boutique hotel Iberostar Grand Hotel Trinidad, located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage protected old town of Trinidad, a picturesque Spanish colonial town, and the Iberostar Daiquiri Hotel on Cayo Guillermo beach.
