Santa Monica's premier beachfront dining destination, 1 Pico, has appointed David Almany as Chef de Cuisine. Following a globetrotting career that has taken him from his native Los Angeles to Singapore, Almany returns stateside to develop 1 Pico's new culinary program. Set to launch in April at the renowned Shutters on the Beach hotel, the refreshed menu of 1 Pico will feature light, coastal-Californian cuisine and market-fresh seafood.

AROUND THE WORLD & BACK TO THE BEACH

Chef Almany joins 1 Pico from his most recent position as Executive Chef and Partner at Angeleno, a Michelin-recommended, Italian-American restaurant in Singapore. Almany first landed in Singapore in 2010, when Nancy Silverton, Mario Batali and restaurateur Joe Bastianich selected him to spearhead Mozza's international brand expansion. During his five-year tenure as Executive Chef of Osteria Mozza at Singapore's luxurious Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the restaurant received numerous awards and accolades such as San Pellegrino Asia's 50 Best Restaurants and Forbes' 4-Star Excellent Restaurant Award. Before moving to Asia, Chef Almany worked for Silverton and Matt Molina at Osteria Mozza's flagship Los Angeles restaurant. A graduate of Santa Barbara School of Culinary Arts, he began his career - and stoked his passion and affinity for Mediterranean and Italian cuisine - at Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars in Santa Barbara.

COASTAL-CHIC DINING: ABOUT 1 PICO

Designed by famed interior designer Michael S. Smith, 1 Pico's coastal-chic design and spectacular oceanfront location set the restaurant apart in L.A.'s culinary landscape. Chef Almany's updated, seasonal market menu, designed to complement 1 Pico's widely respected wine list, will launch in mid-April 2018, with the restaurant open daily for dinner from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Updated brunch and lunch menus will follow.
