Best Western Hires External Communications Director

PHOENIX, AZ, January 4, 2008. Best Western International today announced the appointment of Troy Rutman as the hotel chain's director of external communications. In this role, Rutman will leverage traditional and new media to further the business goals of Best Western's membership. He reports directly to Dorothy Dowling, Best Western's senior vice president of marketing and sales. Rutman directs a three-member communications team, as well as Allison & Partners, Best Western's public relations agency of record.

"Troy's extensive experience as an executive, a writer and a communications strategist will help position Best Western as a hospitality industry leader," said Dowling. "We are excited to welcome him into the Best Western family and to benefit from his fresh thinking."

Prior to joining Best Western, Rutman served as director of public relations at Phoenix, Ariz.-based advertising and public relations agency, Knoodle, where he counseled clients in commercial and residential real estate, education and health care. He has also held positions at leading marketing and entertainment companies, including the William Morris Agency, ElectricArtists and Golin Harris, where he developed initiatives for Coca Cola, MasterCard, Keebler Foods, McDonald's and Lipton, among others.

Rutman earned a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Cornell University.
