World Leisure Expo 2006 Announces Innovation Prize Panelists.

HANGZHOU, China, August 23, 2005. World Leisure EXPO 2006 to be held in Hangzhou, China and includes the 100 Cities Exhibition, the 9th World Leisure Congress, the World Leisure Summit and, to celebrate achievement, the World Leisure Innovation Prize, today announced the 2006 Innovation Prize panelists. The Inaugural Prize Awards - Gold Standard, Silver Standard and Bronze Standard - will be presented at the lavish EXPO Opening Ceremony on 22 April 2006.

The World Leisure Innovation Prize seeks to attract, recognize and promote the best examples of innovations, large or small, from across the world. Leisure is considered in its broadest sense, including play, recreation, the arts and culture, sports, festivals and celebrations, health and fitness, travel and tourism, whether programs, schemes, services, equipment or 'amenities', outdoor or indoor.

The Innovation Prize is open to any organization - public, voluntary or private, whose innovative scheme, having been operational for two years or more, has advanced the promotion, management or participation in leisure for the good of the community.

Dr. George Torkildsen, from the UK, is now retired from leisure and recreation management consultancy. He is a Life Member and past Chairman of World Leisure, Trustee of The National Playing Fields Association, Life Member of The Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management and The Institute of Sport and Recreation Management, and an International Fellow of the American Leisure Academy.

Dr. Karla Henderson is professor in the Dept. of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University. She has also been on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin and Texas Woman's University and has served as president of SPRE, president of the AAHPERD Research Consortium, President of the Academy of Leisure Sciences and on state, national and international boards. She is a life member of World Leisure and has served on its Board of Directors.

Henny Oldenhove is the Director of Sport and Recreation ACT in the state government of the Australian Capital Territory and has been instrumental in the development of national sports initiatives. She was a Board member of Hockey Australia, Secretary/Treasurer of the Oceania Hockey Federation and member of the International Hockey Federation's Development and Coaching Committee.

Wei Xiaoan is a senior researcher of the Tourism Research Center, China's Academy of Social Sciences. He was Director of Planning and Finance of National Tourism Administration, Vice President of China Domestic Tourism Association and General Supervisor of Quality Supervision and Administration in the Department of National Tourism Administration.

Pang Xue Quan is professor on Foreign Philosophy and Vice Secretary of the Communist Party Committee at Zhejiang University. He is a member of German International New Phenomenology Association and Member of National Modern Philosophy Association. His research areas include Leisure Culture.

Pierre Morin recently retired from the Ville de Montreal in Canada, having been Director of Culture, Sports, Recreation and Social Development. He is now in consultancy. He has been a board member of the Regroupement quebecois du loisir municipal and Vice-President of the Association quebecoise du loisir municipal. Currently, he is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association.

Patrick Nanty is Principal Secretary, Department of Sports & Culture, Ministry of Local Government, Sports and Culture and Chairman, National Sports Council, Seychelles. He is actively involved in policy and strategic planning for cultural tourism, sports tourism, community facilities development and Sports For All. He has served on a number of national committees.

The Innovation Prize entry requirements are straightforward:

In Stage One a brief report of around 1,000 words, written in English or Chinese, which addresses the adjudication criteria, is received by email or mail by 30 September 2005. The criteria include innovation, objectivity, quality, community involvement, impact, financing, distinctiveness, and sustainability.

In Stage Two, the short listed candidates will produce an additional report of around 3,000 words together with visual and supporting materials by 31 January 2006.
