Tivoli Hotels & Resorts to Open in Portugal’s Porto Region With Brand-New Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel

Portugal, Gaia. November 27, 2024

Tivoli Hotels & Resorts announces its continued expansion in Portugal, the brand's home country, with the upcoming launch of Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel. Located on the south bank of the Douro River in the city of Gaia, the wine-country hotel is scheduled to open early in 2025.

Currently under development, the new Tivoli Kopke will set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the northern region of Portugal, combining Tivoli's heritage of timeless travel with the unique history and legacy of Kopke, the oldest Port Wine House in the world, established in 1638.

Ideal for business and leisure travelers alike, the hotel will feature 150 guest rooms, including 10 suites, along with two restaurants, three bars, two swimming pools, a Tivoli Shape fitness center, fully equipped events facilities with six meeting rooms, and 97,000 sq. ft. of exterior gardens to welcome special gatherings and celebrations. The property will also be home to a unique Tivoli Spa, where bespoke therapies will be aligned with the destination and inspired by its natural elements.

Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel is located on the hillside of Gaia in an ancient Port Wine cellar that will be an integral part of the hotel experience. With stunning views of the city of Porto and its traditional Cais da Ribeira and the emblematic Luís I Bridge, the hotel is walking distance from main local attractions, providing direct access to the beautiful and lively Gaia riverfront, and its restaurants, bars and shops. Porto is just a few minutes' walk, or easily accessible via the nearby Devesas train station and the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is a quick 30-minute drive from the hotel.

The current hotel construction is being carefully curated to pay tribute to the history of Kopke, a brand that is older than Douro's demarcated region and a leader in the production of tawny and white port. The unique Kopke Port Wine cellar adjoining the hotel will be one of the most exclusive attractions, allowing guests to savor an immersive experience in the world of the most recognized fortified wine—port.

Culinary experiences at the hotel will include a soon-to-be-revealed fine-dining restaurant helmed by a renowned chef, as well as a relaxed all-day restaurant, a wine bar and a rooftop bar overlooking the Douro River, where guests can enjoy views of its typical Rabelo boats and the city of Porto beyond.

Dillip Rajakarier, Group CEO of Minor International and CEO of Minor Hotels, the parent company of Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, commented, "We are delighted to announce this exciting upcoming addition to the Tivoli portfolio in the Porto region with a truly special partnership with Kopke. With a beautiful and privileged location, this property will offer exceptional facilities to both business and leisure guests, connecting them with the world of port wine in a very exclusive way. We are honored to be working with the team at Kopke to bring this property to fruition."

"We're very proud to present our first hotel in partnership with the Tivoli brand," said Pedro Braga, CEO Sogevinus, parent company of Kopke. "This collaboration reflects our ambitions for the property, and we believe that the partnership with Minor Hotels will be able to create a new world-class hotel that celebrates luxury and wine in a stunning location surrounded by unique world heritage, and paying homage to centuries of history."

With a journey dating back to 1933 in Lisbon, Tivoli Hotels & Resorts is well-known for its cultural heritage and genuine connection to each destination. The brand expanded from Portugal to Brazil, Qatar and China, and recently has been growing its footprint further into Europe with the first openings in Spain, Italy and Netherlands. Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia will be its ninth property in Portugal.
