Mohegan Sun Opens New Bar & Grill

NOVEMBER 8, 2007. Mohegan Sun has introduced another renovation to the existing property prior to the opening of Project Horizon, Birches Bar & Grill. As one of Mohegan Sun's 30-plus dining outlets, Birches Bar & Grill is a casual dining experience conveniently located in the heart of Casino of the Earth. This newest eatery offers guests a truly unique dining experience, with signature dishes and an atmosphere inspired by Native American design.

"We are excited to launch Birches Bar & Grill at Mohegan Sun," said Gary Crowder, Senior Vice President of Resort Operations at Mohegan Sun. "Birches will offer guests a one-of-a-kind family dining experience in a unique atmosphere that incorporates elements of Tribal heritage."

At Birches Bar & Grill there is something for every food-lover's appetite. Diners can enjoy entrees like cedar plank salmon and turkey pot pie, as well as more contemporary classics like gourmet wood stone pies and lobster mac and cheese. At Birches Bar & Grill, you'll find a huge selection of hearty choices, remarkably re-imagined by Mohegan Sun's top culinary experts with a special section on the menu called "Go Native" offering a modern approach to Mohegan dishes such as the New England seafood skillet and stuffed turkey timbers.

It only seems fitting that this new eatery would offer guests an American classic, Birch Beer. This soda is made from herbal extracts, usually from birch bark and varies in color pending on the species of birch tree from which the sap is extracted. Additionally, the new outlet will also serve a complimentary variation of a Native American succotash with freshly baked breads.

The addition of Birches Bar & Grill is just one of recent property enhancements underway in Casino of the Earth and Casino of the Sky prior to the opening of the multi-million dollar Project Horizon expansion. In Casino of the Earth, over 200-plus slot machines where added back in September, including some of the latest technology the gaming world has to offer. SolToro Tequila Grill also opened this summer, over in Casino of the Sky. The new authentic Mexican restaurant is co-owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan, making it his third restaurant at Mohegan Sun. In August, Mohegan Sun opened Sunrise Square, an expanded Asian area offering an authentic Southeast Asian cuisine food court, new bus lobby with juice bar, retail outlet and expanded table game offerings. Mohegan Sun Sky Tower also saw major changes this year when it underwent a $13.8 million refurbishment to all 1,200 guest rooms and suites. The renovation was to heighten the appeal as one of the country's preeminent destinations.

New retailers coming to The Shops at Mohegan Sun just in time for the holiday season will be announced in the next few weeks.

Currently in the midst of Project Horizon - a multi-million dollar expansion that calls for a new 1,000-room hotel, featuring 300 House of Blues-themed rooms and an exclusive members-only House of Blues Foundation RoomTM. The expansion also includes 115,000 square feet of additional retail and restaurant space, and a new 64,000 square-foot Casino of the Wind. In addition, Project Horizon expanded Mohegan Sun's Asian gaming experience in the Casino of the Earth with Sunrise Square, which opened in August 2007. Upon full completion in 2010, Project Horizon is expected to add more than 1.4 million square feet to Mohegan Sun's existing structure.
