Dragons and Lizards and Birds, Oh My!

. October 14, 2008

KENNETT SQUARE, PA, November 8, 2007. More than a decade in the making, the new 4,000-square-foot Indoor Children's Garden has made its debut to rave reviews from the young and young-at-heart.

The enchanting multi-level space features one-of-a-kind handcrafted creatures including the enormous Drooling Dragon, Spitting Fish, Salamander, Ibis, Pelican, Turtle, and friends. There's water, water everywhere-more than 17 water features, many of which are interactive. Plants from agave to zamioculcas create a garden of wonder that will spark the imaginations visitors of all ages. Seven distinct yet integrated experiences engage the mind and body through touch, smell, sight, and sound.

Some statistics: The new garden uses 59 tons of Rebar, 2.7 miles of electrical conduit, 125 water nozzles, 25.2 miles of wire, and 186 ball valves for root zone heating. Construction began in December 2004 and was completed in October 2007. The most commonly heard word on opening day: "Amazing!"

Longwood Gardens is one of the many family-friendly attractions in the Brandywine Valley, just 30 miles west of Philadelphia where Pennsylvania and Delaware meet.
