Thayer Hotel Names Assn't GM
WEST POINT, NY, September 25, 2007. Michael J. Dwyer of the Bronx, NY, has recently been promoted to Assistant General Manager at the historic Thayer Hotel at West Point. Mr. Dwyer, who has worked with the Thayer for the past 11 years, will be responsible for supporting the General Manager in all aspects of hotel operations.
Prior to his promotion, Mr. Dwyer served as Director of Sales & Catering for the past two years, as Catering Manager from 2003 to 2005, and as Catering Coordinator in 2002. Mr. Dwyer began his career in the food and beverage department at The Thayer in 1996, while attending college at SUNY New Paltz. He later received a B.A. in Communications from SUNY New Paltz.
He is a member of Connecticut/ Westchester Business Tourism Association (CWBTA) and the Orange County Chamber of Commerce. He has also donated time with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization to help raise funds, and has established a Children's Christmas Party with the Thayer l for the local children.
Built in 1926, the Thayer Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only full-service hotel on the Hudson River from the George Washington Bridge to Albany, New York. Over the years, it has hosted a long line of dignitaries and celebrities including General Tommy Franks, General Douglas MacArthur, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, President John F. Kennedy, Her Royal Highness Princess Alsha Bint-Huessen of Jordan, singer Luciano Pavarotti, actors George C. Scott and Gregory Peck, the Philadelphia Flyers, the cast of "The Sopranos," and many others.
Originally constructed to accommodate U.S. Military Academy personnel and their guests, the Thayer Hotel was a successor of the original West Point Hotel. The Hotel is named for Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, Superintendent of the Academy from 1817 to 1833.
