Morgans Names GM Mondrian South Beach
Property to Open in Early 2008
MIAMI, FL, September 25, 2007. Morgans Hotel Group Co. (NASDAQ: MHGC) named Maria Elena Rubio as the General Manager of Mondrian South Beach, effective immediately. Mondrian South Beach, located on Biscayne Bay in Miami, is MHG's first hotel residence project.
Rubio rejoins MHG from Townhouse Hotel in Miami Beach, where she served as General Manager since May 2006. Previously, Rubio spent six years at MHG's Delano hotel, serving as Hotel Manager from 2002-2006 and as Executive Assistant Manager from 2000-2002. As Hotel Manager for Delano, Rubio was responsible for all hotel operations including management of hotel staff and budgets and overseeing service awareness programs.
'We have known Maria Elena for a long time and we are delighted that she has rejoined the MHG team,' said David Weidlich, Executive Vice President of Operations for MHG. 'She is highly experienced and has a great understanding of the Miami market, which we believe will be key to the success of Mondrian South Beach. We are looking forward to opening the property next year and to having an expanded presence in South Beach.'
Rubio began her career at Four Seasons Hotels, in both New York and Washington, DC and previously served in several managerial positions at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida.
Rubio holds a B.A. in Hospitality Management from Florida International University and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Hands On Miami, a local non-profit organization.
